CERF releases more than $5.5 million to help flood-affected people in the Republic of the Sudan

25 October 2013: Since August, more than 65,500 houses have been either totally destroyed or partially damaged by heavy rains in the Republic of the Sudan. The floods have caused the deaths of 93 people and injured another 85. In total, around 340,000 people have been affected by the heavy rains and flooding. With severe damage to both shelter and infrastructure, the affected people are at high risk for infections and water-borne diseases.

At the beginning of 2013, humanitarian partners in Sudan planned their response based on an estimated 4.3 million people in urgent need of assistance. But by the end of the year, that number had grown to 6.1 million. More people were internally displaced by armed conflict, and flooding and food insecurity affected hundreds of thousands more.

Increasing armed conflicts in the Republic of the Sudan prompts CERF to allocate $8 million

23 August 2013: Increasing inter- and intra-tribal fighting as well as armed conflicts between the Sudanese Armed Forces and armed movements have led to the internal displacement of more than 300,000 people in Darfur in the Republic of the Sudan in 2013. This is more than the total number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Darfur in 2011 and 2012 combined.

CERF allocates $1.9 million to IDPs in the Republic of the Sudan

23 August 2013: Recent escalations in armed clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Sudanese Revolutionary Front have caused thousands of people to flee their homes in the Kordofan region of the Republic of the Sudan. At least 90,000 people have become internally displaced in Kordofan in 2013, on top of an estimated 300,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) throughout the whole country.

CERF allocates more than $15 million to Sudan

2 May 2013: The conflict that began in September 2011 in Blue Nile State in the Republic of the Sudan displaced more than 100,000 people within and outside the state. Most of these people fled their homes, leaving everything behind. They now face severe food insecurity and are prone to many diseases.
