Togo 2012

CERF allocates more than US$600,000 to help internally displaced people in Togo

11 December 2012: In early June 2012, a land dispute between the Konkomba and Moba communities in Namkpandouri, Togo, turned violent and claimed the lives of three people. The dispute also caused severe material damage and loss of livestock.

Iraq 2012

CERF provides US$2.6 million for Syrian refugees in Iraq

18 October 2012: Thousands of Syrians have fled their homes in search of safety and humanitarian assistance in neighbouring countries. An estimated 34,000 Syrian asylum seekers are currently hosted in Iraq. This number is expected to increase if the security situation in Syria continues to deteriorate. The UN and cooperating partners estimate that up to 60,000 Syrians may need protection and assistance in Iraq by the end of the year.

Kuwaiti Contribution to CERF Reaches $1 million for 2012

24 August 2012, New York: The Government of Kuwait donated US$450,000 to the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) at a meeting with Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Catherine Bragg, in UN headquarters.

The Kuwait Permanent Representative to the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Mansour Al-Otaibi, presented checks worth $450,000 to the Fund. With this additional contribution, the Government of Kuwait has given $1 million to CERF in 2012.
