In June 2014, the Government of Pakistan commenced a military security operation in North Waziristan Agency targeting non-state armed actors. The operations prompted large scale displacement of people within the country and to neighbouring Afghanistan.
With more than 500,000 people in need of urgent help, the Emergency Relief Coordinator allocated US$5 million from CERF to help humanitarian partners provide emergency aid.
UN agencies such as the World Health Organization, the World Food Program and UN’s Children Fund, UNICEF, will provide life-saving relief including health and sanitation services, food and clean water.
In January 2014, CERF allocated $9.5 million from its Underfunded Emergencies window to help humanitarian partners sustain aid operations in Pakistan.
