The food-insecurity and malnutrition crisis in the Sahel region continues to affect millions of Chadians. The country has also been heavily affected by political instability and violence in neighbouring countries such as Sudan and the Central African Republic (CAR).
Despite these challenges, there has been little donor interest in Chad, and funding for humanitarian action has been low. In January 2014, CERF allocated US$10 million from its Underfunded Emergencies window to help humanitarian partners sustain emergency aid operations in Chad.
In February 2014, CERF allocated $4.2 million to support refugees and Chadian returnees from the CAR. CERF disbursed an additional $3.5 million in July 2014 to provide health services, water and sanitation.
