Disaster response remains central to OCHA’s activities in the region.

In 2011, 27 countries suffered natural disasters in the region. Of these, 10 triggered the deployment of international tools and services.

OCHA’s new procedures for surge response will see the organization deploy strong and diverse teams immediately after an actual or suspected major sudden-onset disaster, based on an agreed standard team composition.
