Emergency Response

OCHA ROSA sends its surge support to the United Nations RCs of countries within its geographic scope. Through consultations within the Regional Inter-Agency Coordination Office (RIACSO), ROSA ensures that adequate technical surge capacity and cluster leadership are provided. OCHA facilitates inter‐agency support, often in consultation with SADC, to countries in all aspects of emergency response (operational coordination, information management, strategic planning and prioritization, resource mobilization, advocacy, etc.).

Alongside Governments, OCHA often:

  1. Coordinates rapid assessments using the common assessment tool that was developed with SADC and its Member States.
  2. Assists country teams in developing assessment results in a response plan.
  3. Provides inter‐cluster coordination.
  4. Undertakes resource mobilization and advocacy activities to fill funding gaps.
