Storyline

On 24 August 2024, rescue teams started recovering the bodies of a Palestinian family, including children, who had been trapped under the rubble of their bombed house in Hamad city, Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip. Attempts to secure the teams' access to the area lasted three days, during which injured survivors died of their wounds. Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator Scott Anderson arrived to the scene with the rescuers.

We're in an area that's been under intense fighting for the last seven days. And you can see behind me a bulldozer working, trying to excavate a building that has the remains of ten people. Five of those people were minors between the ages of four and six. So it's a lot of people that were innocent just trying to find shelter from the conflict and their lives here.

It's been ten months of fighting now. There's been enough bloodshed. It's been enough loss of life on both sides of this conflict. Now, more than ever, what Gaza needs is a ceasefire, a return of the hostages to their families in Israel, respite for the people in Gaza and a chance for them making meaningful rebuild in their lives.
