“The thing is that when we deliver this food for those people, many of them have received this food in tears, and they have told us that this is the only thing suitable for human use they have received in months.”

“I am originally from north of Gaza. My house was destroyed and in November my brother’s house was destroyed also. I had to leave. I was forced to leave the north and head to the middle area. I have been working since day one. Even when, when I was in the north, and I have come here to the south to continue my work. We have lost almost everything. I have lost, relatives. I, I've lost, friends and family members. But we do have a message. We want to reach for the people. We are responsible, we have a responsibility towards the people. We must continue our work. We must support the people.”

“I was injured back in November when I was trying to provide water to one the school hosting internally displaced people in Gaza City. So I was injured while trying to implement this initiative. I suffered many injuries in my back and legs, but fortunately, nothing was that serious.”

Storyline

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), local actors are still at the forefront of the humanitarian response in Gaza despite immense challenges.

Two humanitarian workers, themselves affected by the war, explained how they strive to support their communities with the most basic necessities as well as psychosocial support and temporary education for children.
