Democratic Republic of the Congo

On the humanitarian front in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, our colleagues at OCHA tells us that some 90,000 people were displaced by the recent clashes [between Congolese forces and M23] in and around Kitsanga in North Kivu, and that is according to initial reports from our humanitarian partners.

Many of the displaced are seeking refuge in nearby Mweso, in schools and churches and with host families.

As more displaced people arrive in Mweso, humanitarian organizations are concerned about the spread of cholera, following last month’s outbreak.

The clashes have also impeded road access, making it difficult to deliver humanitarian aid.

We have some more details on yesterday’s raid in the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank from our humanitarian colleagues.

According to medical sources and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, ambulances were initially denied access to the area and faced restrictions trying to reach the wounded. Local sources say at least one private ambulance was hit by live ammunition.
