Najwa Mekki
Najwa Mekki was appointed Chief of OCHA’s Strategic Communications Branch in May 2022. Mekki brings almost 30 years of communications experience to the role. She was appointed UNICEF’s Global Media Chief in 2017, prior to which she was the Emergencies Lead in the Media Section in New York, working on conflicts in countries including the Central African Republic, Nigeria, South Sudan, Syria and Yemen. Mekki has also worked as a Communication Specialist in UNICEF's Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa, Press Officer in the Media Section in New York, and Associate Editor in the Publications Section in New York. Before joining UNICEF, she was a Press Officer at the British Embassy in Tunis and Editor-in-Chief of Tunisia’s only English newspaper at that time. Mekki, a Tunisian national, has a Master’s degree in Foreign Languages and Cultures and speaks Arabic, English, French and Spanish.
