The month of October is marked by the start of school year 2023 - 2024 throughout the country. Despite a slight improvement compared to May 2023, 22% of the country's educational facilities are still closed, affecting more than 880,000 pupils. It should also be noted that some schools are still being used as shelters for internally displaced people, notably in Boulsa in the Centre-Nord region.

More than 32,000 people were newly displaced during the month due to insecurity, particularly in the Nord, Boucle du Mouhoun, Est and Hauts-Bassins regions.

Humanitarian partners continue to respond to the needs of internally displaced people and host communities in hard-to-reach areas via humanitarian air services. More than two MT of nutrition supplies and vaccines were delivered to Silmangué in Centre-Nord region. In addition, 1,200 MT of food assistance were delivered during the month, including 712 MT to Titao in the Nord region and 390 MT to Djibo in the Sahel region.
