CERF allocates $2 million to Cameroon in response to the epidemic of yellow fever

18 January 2012: CERF has allocated $2 million. Since 2 November 2011, a yellow fever epidemic has hit the North Region of Cameroon. More than 20 cases of yellow fever have been reported in eight of the 15 districts of the Region. More than 1.2 million people in Cameroon are at risk of the disease and there is concern of its spread to neighboring countries.

In response, the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has allocated US$2,003,280 to the World Health Organization (WHO) to stop the spread of yellow fever and treat those who have fallen victim to the disease. With CERF funds, WHO will organize mass vaccination campaigns and develop guidelines for the management of yellow fever cases in collaboration with national authorities. More than 1.2 million people, including 214,000 children under the age of 5 years, will benefit from the CERF-funded projects.
