(New York/Geneva/Bogota, 15 May 2023) The Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, Joyce Msuya, will arrive in Bogota on Monday for meetings with senior officials from the Government of Colombia and representatives of aid organizations and humanitarian donors.

While in Colombia, the Assistant Secretary-General will highlight the UN’s dedication to continued collaboration with the Government to support the peace efforts and respond to humanitarian emergencies.

“We are all committed to ensuring that the Government’s ongoing work towards ending armed conflict and addressing inequality bear fruit,” Ms. Msuya said. “This is especially critical, given 7.7 million people in the country need humanitarian aid this year.”

During her mission, the Assistant Secretary-General will also spotlight the challenges facing indigenous and ethnic communities, who are disproportionately affected by the conflict.
