CERF allocates $6 million for South Sudanese refugees

On 7 March 2014, the Emergency Relief Coordinator approved a US$6 million rapid response grant from CERF for urgent humanitarian aid for South Sudanese refugees and host communities in Ethiopia.

UN agencies estimate that over 61,000 people fleeing political instability and violence in South Sudan have arrived in Ethiopia since mid-December 2013. Most of the refugees are women and children.

The funds will help humanitarian partners provide critical aid for refugees and host communities including food, clean water, sanitation services and evacuation and transportation assistance.
