Heavy rains in the Nord and Nord-Ouest departments of Haiti on 8 and 9 April have resulted in six deaths, flooding of houses and crops, as well as loss of livestock.

In the Nord, two people died in a landslide in Limbe communal Section and two others drowned when trying to cross a river near Bayeux. Some 125 houses have been flooded while crops and livestock sustained damage. Out of the 700 displaced people, 68 people are in evacuation shelters, according to the Directorate for Civil Protection (DPC)-Nord. Risks of cholera outbreaks are high considering the upward trend during the preceding week.

In the Nord-Ouest department, two dead bodies have been retrieved from the water near Anse à Foleur. The communes of Port-de-Paix and Saint Louis du Nord have particularly borne the brunt of torrential rains. Four rivers- rivière des Barres, rivière Desgrange, les trois rivières, la rivière de Port-de Paix- overflew their banks, according to the DPC for the Nord-Ouest. Some 26 houses have been flooded.
