Since December 2014, tens of thousands of people have fled violent conflict between government forces, Islamic militants and tribal groups in Anbar Province in western Iraq. UN agencies estimate that 180,000 people are in dire need of assistance.

On 19 February, the Emergency Relief Coordinator approved a US$4.8 million rapid response grant from CERF to support relief efforts in Iraq. The funds will allow aid agencies to provide desperately needed food, medicine and health services.

In 2013, CERF disbursed close to $10 million to provide food, health and security services to Syrian refugees in Iraq. Since CERF’s inception in 2006, the fund has allocated $34 million for emergency operations in Iraq.
