UN Humanitarian Chief Valerie Amos will visit Iraq from 11 to 14 September 2014.
The Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator is expected to meet senior Iraqi and Kurdish officials and visit a site for displaced Iraqis. The visit will focus on how United Nations humanitarian agencies can support the government of Iraq to provide assistance to those who need it.
Up to 1.8 million Iraqis have been displaced since the beginning of the year and with winter approaching, humanitarian agencies and local partners will continue to step up their response.
A press conference is scheduled on Sunday 14 September at 11am at the al-Nahrein Center in Baghdad
