Media Advisory: UN Deputy Humanitarian Chief to visit Japan

(New York/Geneva, 2 June 2023) The Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, Joyce Msuya, will begin an official five-day visit to Tokyo, Japan, on Monday, 5 June, to discuss how to bolster cooperation on humanitarian matters.

“With a prominent voice on global issues, Japan is a crucial advocate for humanitarian action,” said Ms. Msuya. “In the face of multiplying crises and needs, I look forward to further strengthening our partnership.”

While in Tokyo, she will meet with senior Japanese Government officials and representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and aid organizations.

Ms. Msuya will address graduate students at the University of Tokyo’s Graduate Program on Human Security and the Research Center for Sustainable Peace on current humanitarian challenges and opportunities. She will also speak at the International Christian University High School on what young people can do to help people affected by crises around the world.
