OCHA Media Factsheet on Lebanon - 30 Aug 2006

13 people have been killed and 46 injured due to unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Lebanon since the cessation of hostilities in 14 August. UXO and other ammunitions continue to be the biggest threat to civilian life in Lebanon.

According to the United Nations Mine Action Coordination Centre (UNMACC), 90 per cent of all cluster-bomb strikes occurred within the last 72 hours of the conflict.

Up to 100,000 unexploded cluster bomblets remain in southern Lebanon and must be defused and destroyed.
