Drowning World

In Nigeria and Pakistan, months of heavy rains caused widespread flooding and devastation. The floods affected more than 33 million people in Pakistan and more than 4.4 million people in Nigeria. In both countries, the floods have killed and injured people and livestock, destroyed houses and livelihoods, displaced millions of people, ruined farmland, brought diseases and worsened food insecurity.

Photographer Gideon Mendel visited both countries in September and November, with support from OCHA.
