Sahel Dashboard: Humanitarian Overview (as of 30 July 2024)

Nearly 33 million vulnerable women, children and men in Burkina Faso, Cameroon’s Far North region, Mali, Niger, northeastern Nigeria, and southwestern Chad need humanitarian assistance and protection services. The population of the Sahel faces significant food insecurity and concerning nutrition levels, due to violence, climate shocks and increasing prices of local and imported basic products. As of 30 June 2024, 5.5 million people are internally displaced and 2.1 million are refugees. The livelihoods of affected populations are threatened, and access to basic services is limited, increasing their vulnerability to epidemics. Thanks to donors, as of 30 July 2024, US$1.2 billion has been provided to respond to the humanitarian crises in the region. However, the needs remain significant. The Humanitarian Response Plans required a total of US$4.7 billion to support 20.9 million people, meaning that 25 per cent of the total funding requirement has been received.
