CERF allocates close to $5 million for emergency assistance in Pakistan

CERF allocates $5 million for displaced people fleeing the ongoing security operation in northwest area of Pakistan.

At the request of provincial government authorities in early 2011, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in coordination with the authorities and other humanitarian agencies, helped to establish two temporary camps for internally displaced people (IDP) in the northwest part of Pakistan. The IDP families have been displaced by renewed military operations in the area.

While authorities had predicted that the displacement in area would be short-lived, it has become evident that substantial return of IDPs to their homes is not realistic in the short term. Therefore, the humanitarian community is planning for further assistance. CERF will provide nearly $5 million to UNHCR for emergency protection and assistance for IDPs.
