Donor Mission visits Pakistan

(Islamabad: 1 April 2006): A donor mission comprising representatives from Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as the European Commission's Humanitarian Office (ECHO) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is arriving tomorrow on a six day visit (2 to 7 April 2006) to Pakistan.
The purpose of the visit is to review the overall response to the earthquake by the humanitarian community, comprehend the challenges foreseen for an early and sustainable recovery, and review how best to support the Government of Pakistan in the recovery, reconstruction and rehabilitation effort.

The visit will include trips to the earthquake affected areas of Muzaffarabad and Bagh (depending on weather conditions) along with meetings with the those affected by the earthquake, important government officials and representatives of United Nations agencies, the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the donor community.

The donor mission is part of the OCHA Donor Support Group (ODSG).
