HIGHLIGHTS

  • Heavy rainfall resulted in 99 deaths (29 Male, 26 Female and 44 Children), 94 injuries (46 Male, 20 Female, 28 Children), 464 damages to schools, and over 3,500 houses being damaged between 12 April and 21 April 2024.

  • In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), flooding impact resulted in 63 fatalities, 79 injuries and damage to over 3,200 houses, as well as impacting livestock and property.

  • 194 families (1,211 individuals) were temporarily displaced in the Lower Chitral district of KP Province.

  • In Balochistan, heavy rainfall led to 15 fatalities, 10 injuries, and damage to 345 houses, 3 bridges, and 12 roads.

  • The KP Government released PKR 113 Million to affected districts for death compensation and general relief.

SITUATIONAL UPDATE

From 12 to 21 April, Pakistan faced unprecedented devastation due to heavy rainfall, lightning and flash floods with KP being the worst affected followed by Balochistan. This unfortunate event resulted in the loss of 99 lives (29 Male, 26 Female and 44 Children), with 94 people sustaining injuries (46 Male, 20 Female, 28 Children). Additionally, 464 schools, over 3,500 houses (557 Fully damaged, 2,986 Partial), and 220 other buildings were damaged, along with the loss of over 350 livestock.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) KP, heavy rainfall caused 63 deaths (15 Males, 15 Females, 33 Children), 79 injuries (38 Males, 17 Females, 24 Children), and damage to over 3,500 houses in various districts. Over 350 livestock perished in the floods. The KP government declared the flood emergency in Dir Lower, Dir Upper, Swat, Kohistan Kolai Palas, Mohmand, Bajour, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, Chitral Lower, Chitral Upper, Khyber, Peshawar and Charsadda districts until 30 April 2024 to facilitate relief efforts and assessments.

The Education Department of KP reported that 464 schools have been partially or fully damaged in the affected districts. The Education Department emphasized the importance of providing school tents for emergency education to ensure that children do not miss out on their academic sessions.

According to PDMA Balochistan, heavy rainfall in Balochistan province resulted in 15 deaths (4 Males, 6 Female, 5 Children), 10 injuries (7 Male, 1 Female, 2 Children), and damage to over 240 houses. Chaghi and Chaman districts were particularly affected, by localized flash floods causing 8 deaths in Chaman district and damaging 110 houses in Chaghi district.

PDMA Punjab reported 21 deaths (10 Male, 5 Female, 6 Children) and 5 injuries (1 Male, 2 Female, 2 Children) in the recent rain-related incidents.
