CERF allocates $268,000 to vaccinate children against measles in Senegal

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and World Health Organization (WHO) will receive over $268,000 to vaccinate 326,000 children in 42 high-risk areas in Senegal.

Measles have been in the region of Dakar since June 2009 and more than 800 cases have been reported in eight districts. It started spreading rapidly in other districts in September 2009. By the end of the year, 14 districts outside of the Dakar region were affected by the disease. To attend the situation and prevent further spread of the epidemic, the country decided to organize a selective vaccination campaign for vulnerable children.
