Highlights/Key priorities
· US $2 billion will be needed to address the situation in the Horn of Africa. Some $1 billion has been received. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon today called on donor countries to come up with the additional $1 billion needed to meet expected needs.
· 11.6 million people are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance in the Horn of Africa.
· Refugee influxes from Somalia into Kenya and Ethiopia continue, with approximately 3,500 people arriving each day.
· WFP is considering food drops to parts of Somalia where the agency is as yet unable to access affected communities.
