Over 418,000 people newly displaced in Sudan in 2022 - IOM DTM The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) has published an overview of internal civilian displacement in Sudan in 2022. Over 418,000 people were newly displaced across the country in 2022 due to conflict and natural disasters such as flooding and fires. Most of the displacement was registered in Blue Nile (30.6 per cent), followed by West Darfur (22.8 per cent) and South Darfur (11.2 per cent). Most of the new displacement—about 314,000 people—was caused by conflict, with 21 incidences reported across the country.

Conflict took place in West Darfur, North Darfur, South Darfur, East Darfur, South Kordofan, West Kordofan and Blue Nile states. About 103,000 people were displaced due to flash floods or riverine flooding during the 2022 rainy season. Most of this displacement (62 per cent) was caused riverine flooding, while 38 per cent was caused by flash flooding. For more information, please see the DTM Sudan New Displacement Overview 2022.
