UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan calls for immediate access to wounded in North Darfur

Khartoum, 6 May 2008: The Humanitarian Coordinator, Ms Ameerah Haq is deeply concerned about the reported attacks on civilian installations in North Darfur. The HC, who is in Oslo for the Sudan Consortium, joins her voice to delegate after delegate who called for an immediate end to these attacks. The HC calls for immediate access to the concerned areas so that seriously injured civilians can be medically evacuated.

'I am deeply perturbed by the reported bombings of a school, water installations and a market where civilians, especially women and children are present. It is essential that we have immediate humanitarian access to the affected populations in order to provide humanitarian assistance and medical evacuation.'
