Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense Celebrates 20 Years.

On 14 August 2014 the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense of Tajikistan (CoES) celebrated 20 years since its founding in August 1994. The “Republican Scientific and Practical Conference on the 20th Anniversary of the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan - History, Development and Perspectives” was held in the Dushanbe Plaza Conference Hall with participation of 80 national and international organizations.

The conference was chaired by CoES Deputy Chairman, with opening speeches delivered by Mr. Murodali Alimardon, Deputy Prime Minister and the Chairman of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, Mr. Khayriddin Abdurahimov, CoES Chairman and Ms. Aliona Niculita, UNDP Deputy Country Director. During the conference participants discussed a wide range of issues related to the historical aspects of the establishment, development, consolidation and the future prospects of the CoES.

The participants noted that the key factors in solving the existing problems in this sector is to attract the investment needed for further study and research, as well as for the implementation of DRR related activities. At the end of the conference the experts and scientists representing government, non-government, local, international and donor organizations adopted a series of recommendation on strengthening and development of the work of CoES.
