WHAT: Launch of the Global Humanitarian Overview 2019 and World Humanitarian Data and Trends 2018 - Measuring and mitigating risk: preventing protracted emergencies from becoming the new norm

On 4 December in Geneva, USG/ERC Mr. Mark Lowcock will launch the Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) 2019 and the World Humanitarian Data and Trends (WHDT) 2018.

The GHO is the world’s most comprehensive, authoritative and evidence-based assessment of global humanitarian needs. It is based on detailed analysis of data from a wide range of sources and face-to-face interviews with hundreds of thousands of people affected by humanitarian crises across the globe.

The GHO outlines the strategic response plans for individual crisis and facilitates effective, rapid and coordinated responses to humanitarian crises, supporting life-saving action by humanitarian agencies, generously financed by governmental, private and individual donors.

The WHDT report focuses on trends and opportunities in humanitarian action. It is part of OCHA's efforts to improve data and analysis on humanitarian situations worldwide and build a humanitarian data community.

USG/ERC Mark Lowcock will present the GHO at a press conference at 9.00 a.m. At the launch event from 10.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. CET, invited speakers will address trends and present how humanitarian country teams plan to assist people affected by conflict, geological and adverse climatic events.
