Transforming Humanitarian Action: People at the Centre

On the occasion of the launch of the Global Humanitarian Overview 2024 (GHO), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will host an event in Geneva on 11 December 2023.

The GHO is the annual overview of humanitarian trends and needs worldwide, and the interagency plans to respond to the crises. The GHO includes a summary of the funding necessary to implement the plans next year.

The event will take place from 10:30 to 12:00 CET (Central European Time) in Room XVII at the Palais des Nations. Media accredited to the UN Office at Geneva can access the room.
The event is also livestreamed on UN WebTV

The Geneva event is one of three during the day - the other two taking place in Doha and Addis Ababa - and includes a recorded message by Secretary-General António Guterres, followed by opening remarks from Ms. Joyce Msuya, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator.

A high-level panel will discuss humanitarian action, community engagement, and protection risks in the context of the climate crisis. Panelists will also highlight transformations required to put people first when responding to humanitarian crises.

The panel will be moderated by Ms. Melissa Fleming, Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications, and includes the following speakers:

• Mr. Janez Lenarčič, Commissioner for Crisis Management, European Commission

• Ms. Kelly Clements, Deputy High Commissioner, UNHCR

• Mr. Waseem Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer, Islamic Relief

• Ms. Assalama Maï Kéllema Gréma Ari, Comité de Jeunes Filles Leaders (COJEFIL),
