CERF has allocated $6.2 million to humanitarian agencies in Yemen

CERF provides over $2 million for humanitarian needs following civil unrest in Yemen.

The events sweeping across the Arab region have had a big impact on Yemen, translating into civil unrest. Although these demonstrations are lead by the youth, participants cut across all demographic groups and gender. With the high number of demonstrations and associated violence sustained over several months, high numbers of injuries and wider protection impacts have been recorded across the country.

In response, CERF will provide $250,000 to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for monitoring and responding to violations against children’s rights. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will use $320,000 to increase national capacity to protect victims of violence. Finally, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) will use nearly $1.7 million for mass casualty management.

In response to conflict in northern Yemen, CERF will provide over $4 million

As a result of conflict in northern Yemen, more than 320,000 people have been displaced. The conflict has resulted in severe disruptions to basic services and insecurity. Amongst the population, it is estimated that about 60 percent are persons whose specific needs include shelter, non-food items, food and health services. A recent agreement in April among the parties to the conflict has increased access for humanitarian agencies and this has led to the possibility of providing life-saving assistance to IDPs.

As a result, CERF will provide over $4 million to three humanitarian agencies. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will provide emergency assistance and the World Food Programme (WFP) will provide food.
