Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, Johannes Van Der Klaauw, condemns tragic killing of two ICRC staff

(Sana’a, 2 September 2015): I am deeply saddened by today’s shooting and killing of two staff members of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Amran Governorate. I share the grief of our colleagues at ICRC and extend heart-felt condolences on behalf of the Humanitarian Community to our friends at the ICRC and the families of those killed.

I condemn this despicable act. This sad event proves once again the urgent need for all parties to respect their obligations under International Humanitarian Law to protect the lives and rights of civilians and providing aid workers with a safe environment to work in.
