INTRODUCTION

2024 has been a challenging year for the people of Yemen.
Individuals continue to grapple with the ongoing economic turmoil, lack of public services and infrastructure and deterioration of living conditions.
Levels of food insecurity and malnutrition continue to surge across the country, exacerbated by the outbreak of Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD)/ cholera.
The humanitarian situation is worsened further by the devastating impact of climate change, including heavy rains and flooding in many areas of the country.
Ongoing regional dynamics add additional challenges.
In 2024, 18.2 million people require humanitarian assistance in Yemen, including over 4.5 million internally displaced people.
Despite the challenges, humanitarian partners remain steadfast.
In the first five months of 2024, a total of 162 humanitarian organizations continued to deliver aid to an average of 2.7 million people per month. An average of 1.8 million people were reached each month with food assistance, over 518,000 people were assisted with healthcare, over 617,000 people were provided with water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services, and nearly 331,000 people received nutrition support.
This booklet is a collective work by the Yemen Humanitarian Communications Network to highlight stories of impact across the country from these response efforts since the start of 2024.
These stories highlight just a few of the many reasons we are here to deliver: stories of hope, resilience, and humanity, stories of partnerships with the people of Yemen, and stories of impact.
Amidst the multi-faceted challenges and humanitarian needs, there are stories that inspire.
About the HCN: The Humanitarian Communications Network (HCN) is a community of communications focused staff from local and international organizations and UN agencies engaged in humanitarian efforts in Yemen. The HCN is currently co-chaired by OCHA and ADRA Yemen.
