The United Nations and the Governments of Sweden and Switzerland will convene a High-Level Pledging Event for the Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen, in Geneva, on 3 April to raise awareness of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and mobilise resources in support of the response.

The humanitarian situation in Yemen continues to deteriorate due to widespread conflict, displacement, food insecurity, collapsing basic services, outbreaks of cholera and diphtheria, and economic decline. A record 22.2 million people, or 75 percent of the population, are now in need of humanitarian assistance - 3.4 million more than last year.

The United Nations and its humanitarian partners have launched an international appeal for US$2.96 billion to provide neutral and impartial life-saving assistance and protection to people in Yemen in 2018. The conference will seek funding to this appeal, but donors can also pledge towards humanitarian action not included in the appeal.

The high-level event is open to the press and will be livestreamed from 10:00 a.m. CET. A media stakeout will take place at 1:00 p.m. CET in the Palais des Nations. A special event on access in Yemen is included in the afternoon programme.
