Yemen: Flood Flash Update No. 02 (Regional and Sectoral Details) (As of 13 August 2024) [EN-AR]

SITUATION OVERVIEW

Over the past weeks, torrential rains and widespread flooding damaged the homes and shelters of host communities and internally displaced persons (IDPs), with some beyond repair. Public infrastructure, including schools, roads, and health facilities, have been affected. Livelihoods that were already hanging by a thread have been swept away.

The governorates of Al Hodeidah, Hajjah, Marib, Sa’dah, and Taiz are among the hardest hit. According to reports shared by OCHA field offices, during August, the number of affected families reached around 19,575 in Hajjah and Al Hodeidah, 9,769 families in Marib, 5,321 families in Ta’iz, and 3,620 families in Sa’dah, bringing the total affected to 38,285 families (nearly 268,000 individuals). The ongoing severe weather is expected to persist into September, with additional alerts for heavy rainfall issued for Ibb Governorate.

The Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) has mobilized a response and is coordinating with partners, authorities, and clusters. Since late July, Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) teams have verified 11,653 affected families (81,571 individuals) and have already helped 8,542 families (59,794 individuals). The verification process remains ongoing, and the RRM Dashboard will continue to be updated accordingly.
