South Sudan: $56.5 million for aid and emergency preparedness

The funding enables the humanitarian community to respond to humanitarian needs and, at the same time, to preposition aid before the start of the rainy season. Last year, timely supply of life-saving aid to people in urgent need proved difficult as up to 60 per cent of the country became inaccessible due to seasonal flooding and poor roads.

UN and humanitarian partners in D.R. Congo launch US$892.6 million action plan for 2013

The plan responds to the growing needs of 3.9 million people across the country including 2.7 million internally displaced, more than half of them in the eastern Kivu provinces. The funding will help provide essential food aid, shelter, protection and water and sanitation programs to prevent life-threatening diseases such as cholera and measles.
